Prompt
Create an interactive map to go along with a book. Concentrating on the main characters of the book, create a link between the historical/physical world and the fictional world of the book.
Process of Development
This was a fun, creative project. A first attempt at creating a digital insert/reference for a book of fiction. It was fun to research the referenced era, cast the characters and create a map of their whereabouts.
For this one, I started with the fun part of conducting a visual search for characters and locations. After I found maphub.net , I created a trial world in one of the mentioned cities, in order to explore the capacity of the website.
Next step, I selected the relevant content from the book, re-formulated and condensed it and transformed it into a Power Point deck.
Using Camtasia allowed me to introduce some desired interactivity into the video.
This digital insert is intended to give a broad overview of the geographical whereabouts of the main characters, like the maps provided in Epic novels like The Lord of the Rings. Being that this work of fiction is vast in time and space, it is helpful to have a visual guide as a reference.
